The role of product category rules (PCR)

According to ISO, a PCR is:

" Set of specific rules, requirements and guidelines for developing Type III environmental declarations (EPD) for one or more product categories. A product category is a group of products that can fulfill equivalent functions (ISO14025, 2006) ".

PCRs therefore provide greater detail with respects to the methodological choices to be made when quantifying the carbon footprint of a product. PCRs help further standardize calculation methods for similar products.
